What can a kitchen interior designer do for me?

Consider an Interior Designer for Your Kitchen Remodel

You may decide to hire an architect, design/build firm or kitchen contractor to hire your kitchen remodel project, but these professionals may not have interior design experience. What if you accidentally pick the wrong cabinet stain and it makes your kitchen look dark and dingy? What if you pick countertops that don't look good with your other style choices? What if you accidentally pick appliances that don't work well with your cabinet choices? Once the remodel phase is well underway, it will quite difficult to make these changes at the last minute.

That's why hiring an interior designer might be a good idea. Interior designers specialize in color, texture and pattern. Their expertise might help you avoid design blunders. That doesn't mean an interior designer will tell you what to do unless you want you want them to; it just means they will offer guidance in creating the perfect kitchen style for you. If you don't have design ability, or are making significant cosmetic changes to your kitchen, creating room in your budget for an interior designer may pay off in the long run. Interior designers can even shop for decor items, window treatments and wallpaper so you don't have to.

If you hire an interior designer with ASID after his or her name, it means they are a member of the American Society of Interior Designers, and have passed tests in their field of expertise. When hiring an interior designer, pick one that can show you photos of past work. If you want a traditional, minimalist or French Country kitchen, make sure your interior designer has completed that specific design project in the past.
