How do I maintain the look of my new cabinetry?

Taking Care of New Cabinetry

Chances are you have spent a fair amount of money renovating your kitchen and having new cabinetry installed. This investment will pay off for many years in the way that you enjoy being in your kitchen and entertaining guests as well as increasing the value of your home. But, if you want to keep your cabinets looking as nice as they do when they are initially installed, ask about and follow some simple cabinetry care tips. If you bought Armstrong cabinets, follow the instructions that came with them:

  • Clean cabinets with a mild detergent or soap and water -- but use the detergent or soap sparingly. Use a lint-free cloth both for washing and drying, and dry all surfaces well. Then you can avoid scratches as excess water.
  • Wipe up spills and splatters when they happen. Keep all surfaces as dry as possible. Watch carefully areas near the sink and dishwasher as they are likely to come into more contact with water. Use polishers designed for wood periodically to protect its finish. Don't use anything abrasive -- cleaners or wiping agents.
If you follow a few simple steps and create some regular clean-up habits, your new cabinets will retain the desirable look that attracted you to buy them in the first place. Remember, this investment has to last a long time so take the time to ensure your cabinetry is cared for on a regular basis.
